Message from the Principal:
Realizing Possibilities
A warm “Thank you” to all Exco-members of Holy Family
Alumnae Association who have given me and the school so much love and
support in various school development programmes. Our graduates are
unique and distinguished for their love of God, their great sense of
duty and their true concern for others and the community. I believe
the school motto “United in Love” is deeply ingrained in
each and every one of us, urging us to continue to live up the school
spirit.
Our Endeavour
Here in Holy Family, we are committed to providing a
well-rounded education where students not only acquire knowledge but
also principles and gospel values that enable them to face challenges
in life. Together with a team of committed teachers and staff, we
have been striving to create a dynamic learning and teaching
environment that helps to extend students’ potential to the full.
“Canossian educators should try to handle each one in the way she
is made, valuing the benefit of education in the formation of heart.”
The direction that our Foundress, St Magdalene of Canossa gave two
hundred years ago has served as a guiding light in my various
educational attempts and decisions in Holy Family.
Our Present
The New Senior Secondary (NSS) Education does pose
some challenge to our plans and preparation for students’ learning for
life. My main task has been to prepare the
school for the NSS curriculum, taking into account the pedagogical
approaches, the assessment system as well as the evaluative measures
to enhance learning and teaching.
What we have done so far in the NSS framework are
the practice of the one-hour-10-minute time-table, the renovation of
rooms to create space for learning as well as upgrading of the IT
equipment and classroom facilities for effective classroom learning.
We also value the occasion where teachers learn together the skills
in differentiated instruction to cater for learner diversity, share
experience of good practices and look into issues of concern to
improve classroom learning and instruction. We try to create more
opportunities for students to be self-motivated learners who develop
their interest and competence in reading for life. We make an effort
to ensure that every student should be a leader of herself, having the
right habits of mind and setting own goals in life. Leadership
training through guidance sisters and community services are our
targets to enhance student quality.
In the journey of this education reform, we have
experienced much joy and happiness, as the change has enabled the
teachers to embark on developing students’ creative and critical
thinking, taking time for peer observation and collaborative lesson
planning. We have started to work on school-based curriculum design
and assessment for learning to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Our Future
As a Canossian educator and the school head, I
would like to seek every opportunity for cohesive communication among
teachers so that we could learn together, as well as learn from each
other. I would also like to take
the lead in making students learn with an open heart for better
understanding of their self-worth and be committed to all that is true
and good. Holy Family Canossian College has always been and will
continue to be a school where students are taught to live a life
filled with hope, energy and resilience to realize their potential.
Our graduates would have a heart filled with gratitude to the loving
God and an upright attitude to anticipate their future and strive for
a better world.
May the good Lord continue to guide us and reward us
with many more generations of thriving young Holy Familians!
