Dear
Sister Cynthia,
Re : Changes in the lyrics of the school song
On
behalf of the Holy Family Canossian College Alumnae Association,
I would like to express our concerns over the change in the lyrics
of the school song, which was announced in September 2002.
With
the original lyrics having been adopted for years, the school song
has become part of the legacy of Holy Family Canossian College,
which epitomizes the spirits and beliefs that are common in all
Holy Familians, both the alumnae and current students.
The
school song is a symbol of our school, which is sung on all important
school events to mark every special moment, and it embodies the
common memory of everybody in the school. Retaining the integrity
of the song is vital for the preservation of tradition and history
of the school.
We
are also disappointed with the lack of transparency in the process
whereby the change was made. Without sufficient consultation and
communication, the introduction of the new lyrics has resulted in
the resistance from students who have expressed their negative feedback
inside the school and through public channels such as the media
and the internet.
We
deeply regret that there was such a change in the lyrics, that we
do not find justified or appropriate.
It is hoped that the school board would take into consideration
our concerns and the students’ responses. We look forward to seeing
the issue being resolved in a desirable way and that all of us are
able to continue to assume the spirit presented in our school song
and unite in love.
Yours truly,
Anne Anita Cheung
